Carolina Health Center Breaks Ground on Second Pharmacy
December 10, 2008
Construction began a little more than one month ago and Carolina Health Centers (CHC) commemorated that moment yesterday by breaking ground on its newest project, a second Carolina Community Pharmacy location.
The Northwest location is on the 72 bypass, adjacent to the Countybank Financial Center. CHC will open the new discount pharmacy while continuing to operate the existing Carolina Community Pharmacy located on Liner Drive next to the Children’s Center.
Following the ground breaking ceremony, CHC held their annual Legislative Luncheon at the Federal Building. There, political delegates from the seven-county area in which CHC currently serves, received recognition before CHC presented their 2009 Legislative Agenda.
Sue Veer, Carolina Health Centers CEO, outlined five legislative priorities CHC hopes delegates will consider in the new year.
- Protecting the integrity of the Medicaid Program
- Increasing the cigarette tax, allocating funds to improve patient’s access to a medical home.
- Ensuring CHC is able to continuing providing access to affordable prescription medication to patients in rural communities.
- Developing a source of funding for implementation and expansion of Health Information Technology.
- Maintaining and expanding funding for health care expansion.
CHC operates in seven counties in the Lakeland’s area. Currently they have 7 primary care offices, a dental practice, a pediatric office, obstetrics and gynecology and two discount pharmacies. CHC also has a mobile unit and holds a school based clinic one day a week at McCormick Elementary School.
According to Veer, CHC provides affordable healthcare for the medically disenfranchised.
Senator Billy O’Dell made closing remarks at yesterday’s luncheon.
“We are facing terrible times budget wise, but we all know how much money we save funding programs like this”, said O’Dell.
The new Carolina Community Pharmacy Northwest will also feature an old fashion soda fountain.
The pharmacy’s construction is slated for completion in the spring of 2009.
