The Partnership For Tomorrow

The Partnership for Tomorrow is a ten-month initiative to raise $4.5 million to implement the five-year strategic action plan known as The Partnership for Tomorrow Program of Work. The campaign’s goal is to secure the necessary funding to underwrite specific programs that will have a lasting positive impact on the community and economic needs of Greenwood County.

Key focus areas for the Program of Work include: Business Retention and Expansion, Business Recruitment, Talent Recruitment and Retention (Workforce Development), Quality of Life (Community Development), and securing an endowed chair in partnership with Clemson University and the Greenwood Genetic Center.

Program of Work

Business Retention & Expansion (BRE)

Five Year Investment: $100,000

GPA will be the preferred partner for existing businesses and employers to create wealth and recruit and retain talent.

  • Develop a Company Target Profile for specific business types that fit our resources or potential.
  • Survey businesses annually to assess their needs and concerns.
  • Conduct systematic BRE visitations to make them aware of programs and assistance available.
  • Create marketing materials for the business retention program.
  • Partner with the Moore School of Business and offer client-specific research or training to local and prospective industries.

New Business Recruitment

Five Year Investment: $1,012,500

With regional and state partners, GPA will execute a recruitment strategy to capitalize on the strengths of the Greenwood Community. The five year goal: create over 1,000 new jobs and $400,000,000 in new capital investment.

  • Target prospective companies in the following areas: advanced materials, automotive, bio sciences, and energy.
  • Enhance the web site to provide a state-of-the-art interactive experience for site selection consultants and prospective industries.
  • Utilize experienced consultants in developing value-added projects that will benefit the county.

Talent Recruitment and Retention (WFD)

Five Year Investment: $850,000

GPA will be the collaborative focus point between the education sector (K-12 plus Piedmont Technical College and Lander University) and employers in Greenwood County. All efforts will be made to develop world class education and training systems to support employers and the citizens of Greenwood County.

  • Serve existing industry and develop new initiatives to make Greenwood County more competitive in the labor market.
  • Enhance existing initiatives, including the Work Ethic Certificate Program, Ready to Work Credential and the Intern/Apprentice Web Portal.
  • Participate in a collaboration to provide scholarship grants to Greenwood school system graduates attending Piedmont Technical College. All students will have an equal opportunity at attaining a college education. Raising the number of higher education degrees has proven to raise the per capita income of a community.

Quality of Place (Community Development)

Five Year Investment: $500,000

Greenwood will continue to develop communities and neighborhoods that provide entertainment, shopping, quality healthcare, and world class education as well as employment to attract and retain both young professionals and retirees.

  • Retail – Support retail expansion and mixed-use development opportunities.
  • Edgefield Corridor –Continue the City Center Master Plan to connect downtown to the hospital and Lander campuses.

Greenwood Genetic Center / Endowed Chairs

Five Year Investment: $2,000,000
GPA will partner with the Greenwood Genetic Center, the Genetic Endowment of South Carolina, and Clemson University to develop and market the Greenwood Research Park as the premiere location for bio sciences research, treatment, and commerce in North America.
